A 3-Day Retreat: The Three Words of Garab Dorje

by Lama Tasha Star

The “Three Words That Strike the Heart” are pith instructions for directly experiencing the nature of mind. Given by the first Dzogchen master, Garab Dorje, to his student Mañjushrimitra, these short instructions contain the entire essence of the teachings and are famed for their ability to bring about full realization in those who receive it.

Lama Lena taught these vital instructions over the course of 3 days, live stream from her home on August 14-16, 2020.

“When yogins rest directly and without any alteration within the self-recognition of the nature of thoughts, they will know the ground. It will become increasingly easier to identify that experience of the innate and uncontrived ground.

We may think that we are presently unable to remain in the yoga of resting like a flowing river, but this is not something that takes a long time to achieve. It takes many months or years to manifest signs of accomplishment when meditating on the pranas and nadis or on a yidam.

But if a highly realized guru introduces us to the naked experience of Dzogchen, we can connect with it right where we are, right in the moment.”

Please Note: Lama Lena strongly advises that each student’s first encounter with Dzogchen should be in person or via a live webcast – not a pre-recorded teaching!

Dzogchen teachings include “Pointing Out Instructions”, which help the student apprehend the true nature of him. These must be received from a qualified Lama. Without the live element, student’s often misapprehend or over-conceptualize the teachings, which are a significant hindrance to them later on. Ultimately, what is pointed at is not what your conceptual mind *thinks* it is.

Traditionally, dharma teachings are offered free of charge and students offer a donation (dana) as they are able to. If you benefited from this teaching and have the means, please offer dana through the link here: lamalenateachings.com/give-dana
