The Passing of Venerable Wangdor Rimpoche

by Lama Tasha Star

Message From Lama Lena:

With great sadness, I must tell you all that Wangdor Rimpoche has departed his Venerable body at last. He passed away in Tso Pema Wednesday morning (India time). As I write this I am already en route to Tso Pema myself and will be able to provide more details once I am there.

Even in grief let me remind you that Venerable Wangdor Rimpoche will always remain present in the lineage, resting beyond the limits of time and space. Practice joyfully. Look at your mind. “Mind mind looking.”

Love to all of you.

Lama Lena

More about Venerable Wangdor Rimpoche:

Lama Wangdor Rinpoche is one of the last Grand Master of the old generation to leave this world, He was born in Kham and studied in the famous monastery of Zigar in Eastern Tibet. He was very close to the first Thuksey Rinpoche for whom he had an immense devotion. It was with him that he fled Tibet in the early 1960s.

Rimpoche then moved to Tso Pema where he deployed a great deal of activity for the Dharma. It was through his initiative, wisdom, and great compassion that we have the monumental statue of Guru Rinpoche that overlooks the sacred lake in Tso Pema. He also greatly helped the monastery of Zigar of which he was the beloved and respected Khenpo.

Through decades of solitary meditation, retreats and practices he achieved the state which Buddhists call realization and is respected worldwide as a Venerable teacher and Master of “Direct Mind Perception” (Dzogchen) Meditation.
